Shea Stadium - It would have been nice if the Mets could have swept the Cubs but they had to settle for winning the three game set two games to one. On this Thursday afternoon with the Mets leading 2-1, Gary Gentry gave up five runs in the top of the fifth inning. The big blow was a two run home run by Ron Santo. Bill Hands shut down the Mets the rest of the way salvaging the final game of the series for the Cubs.

Record 47-35, second place 4 games back. Tommie Agee, as he did often in '69, led off the game with a home run over the center field fence.
