It’s a shame that Mike Pelfrey is not getting any run support. Mike is not mowing his opponents down but he is showing a lot of maturity. As Keith Hernandez pointed out last evening, Pelfrey has been forced to learn how to pitch at the Major League level. In a different organization with more pitching talent to draw from, Pelfrey would likely still be in triple A. His progress is encouraging, the fact the Mets bats could not muster more than 1 run against the worst team in the league is not.
After Wednesday’s win in
Optimistically it’s better to be at or just above .500 then below it. But while the Mets continue to hover,
The Mets really need to win 3 out of 4 games from the Padres. Now by losing the first game they have made that difficult. The Mets must win 3 in a row or come home with a mediocre record against two very poor teams.
On a brighter note the Mets scored well in yesterday’s baseball draft. Here is a summary of who the Mets drafted.
18 - Isaac Davis, First baseman, L/L Arizona State - Could also play corner outfield position, “has a sweet left handed swing that should generate more power in the future” – See him in the Super-Regionals this weekend as Arizona State takes on Fresno State. Check ESPN listings for coverage.
22 - David Havens, Short Stop, L/R University of South Carolina at
a good hitter with excellent plate discipline.
33 - Bradley Holt, RH Pitcher, R/R UNC Willmington – Good fastball but according to Steve Phillips needs a second pitch. He may be tough to sign since he is not a senior. UNC was defeated in the College regionals last weekend.
68 - Javier Rodriguez, OF, R/R Puerto Rico Baseball Academy HS
100 – Nieuwenhuis, Kirk, CF, L/R Azusa Pacific U
134 – Ratliff, Sean, CF, L/L Stanford U, If he makes it to the majors, he would likely do so as a corner outfielder, good power but not consistent – see him in the Super-Regionals this weekend as Stanford takes on Cal State Fullerton. Check ESPN listings for coverage.
164 – Doyle, Charles, Catcher, L/R Coastal Carolina U - see him in the Super-Regionals this weekend as Coastal Carolina takes on
194 – Satin, Joshua, 2B, R/R UC Berkeley
The draft continues today.
