Losing 3 of 4 to the Nationals and 4 or 7 in a home stand to two last place teams is just unacceptable. The Mets are now just 1 game over .500 with 1 short of 40 played for the season. It’s really not the way you want the Mets to head into the subway series tomorrow night.

Once again, the Mets offense sputtered. Jose Reyes continues to flounder at the plate and the team as a whole has no power. Right now there is no Mets batter who is hot. The enter lineup is in a slump. Reyes getting tagged out on his way to third by the shortstop was a bad play. With his speed, he can score from second as easily as he can from third. Some tough luck in the 9th sealed the Mets fate. The sign of a mediocre to bad team is when they hit, they don’t pitch and as was the case today, when they pitch they don’t hit. The whole club is just out of sync.

If you think it gets better, guess again. The Mets now head to the Bronx for three games before heading south to Atlanta for a four game set including a make up day/night double header on Tuesday. Then it’s off to Colorado for three before returning home to face the first place Marlins.

Maybe playing better competition is what this club needs. They certainly need something because they just do not seem to be able to muster the focus and intensity required to be a first place club.

What a wasted effort by Mike Pelfrey who pitched a no hitter into the sixth inning. Will there ever be a no-hitter pitched by a Met at Shea? There are only 60 chances left and Pelfrey came close today.  Since June 1 of last year the Mets are 74-75.

Tonight will mark the beginning (weather permitting) of the last Mets-Yankees series at Yankee Stadium. The all time win loss stats between the two clubs is as follows:
