Two out of three isn’t bad and against your new found rivalry in their yard it’s pretty damn good. It could have been better however. In the ninth inning, Luis Castillo could not get down a bunt which would have moved runners to second and third with one out. Maybe David Wright gets a different sequence of pitches if the runners had moved up. Who knows?

The Mets have not played well on Sundays. So far they are 0-3. In fact, the Mets are 1-5 on weekends having won their first weekend game on Saturday against the Phillies. Against left handed pitchers the Mets are 8-1 while only 2 and 6 against right hand pitching. That says something considering how left hand dominant the Mets batting order is. The Mets also like hitting under the lights. In night games they are 7-1 while only 3-6 under the sun. The Mets like Wednesday through Fridays the best. The Mets are 7-0 on those days.

All and all the Mets have done fairly well up to this point winning 4 of the 6 games against the Phillies. Of course the negative sports media can’t resist reminding us that Jimmy Rollins has not played in 5 of the 6 games. So what should the Mets have done, gone out and lose the games until Rollins came back? How ridiculous and absurd.

The Mets do not see the Phillies again until July 4 in Philadelphia when they play a 4 game set (where else would you rather be on our nation’s birthday?).

The MLB scheduling geniuses have the Mets making their one and only visit to Chicago tonight and tomorrow afternoon. A meager two games are scheduled within a 24 hour period at the friendly confines. What a disgrace. The Mets then do not see the Chicago Cubs until the last week of the season when they come to Shea for 4 games. With 6 games between the two teams, how is it the schedule makers saw to it to play two in Chicago and 4 in New York. It’s just so wacky.

Tonight John Maine goes against Carlos Zambrano. Hopefully the wind is blowing in. So far this season the Mets have won 4 of the 6 series played. The Mets are a half game behind the division leading Marlins. Can that last?
