You know it’s going to come down to this. Both the Mets and Braves will make the playoffs. One club will be the division champion and the other will win the wild card. You know they will both be in the NLCS. It will be three games to three with winner of game 7 taking the pennant. Who do you think will win? I don’t even want to think about it.

For whatever reason, the Braves are in the Mets’ heads…again. Here are some startling numbers:

This season, the Mets are 26 and 11 against all of baseball except the Braves. Against the Braves the Mets are 3-6 and have lost all three series.

The Mets have only lost 7 games on the road this year. But 4 of those have been in Atlanta. Think about that, against all the rest of the National League on the road the Mets have only lost 3 games.

In all series this season the Mets have lost 4 while winning all the others (one split with Washington). Of the four series, the Mets have lost three to Atlanta. The only other series loss was at Shea Stadium against the Marlins.

After the first 9 games with Atlanta last year the Mets were 5-4 having won two of the three series.

The Mets are 7-3 in one run games this season. Of the 3 losses, 2 have been against…you guessed it, the Braves. (The other was against the Nationals—yikes!)

Here’s a good one; the Mets and Braves have both scored 37 runs against each other but the Braves have won 6 of the 9 games played.

Best win against the Braves: 11-1 at Atlanta on April 6th.  Worst loss against the Braves: 8-1 this past Tuesday evening.

Games left with Atlanta: 9, a three game set at Shea on August 7-9, a final series in Atlanta (not including the NLCS of course) Labor Day weekend and one more at Shea September 10-12.

The Mets went 11-7 against the Braves last year meaning they must win 8 of the remaining 9 against Atlanta this year to match last year’s record.

In the last 4 games the Mets offense has mustered 7 runs for a 1 and 3 record.

Here’s the stat that says it all. At Turner Field, the New York Mets house of horrors, the Mets record, including the ’99 LCS’, is 28-61. That’s a winning percentage of .315.

Even though the Mets are still in first place and have the best record in the National League (2nd best in the Majors behind Boston), do you mind if I remain disgusted for a while?
