While in my car at lunch today, I heard a call into Joe Benigno that I totally agreed with. The caller was totally fed up with Yankee fans crying the blues because they have lost key players. What he was implying is that Yankee fans are already setting up an alibi in the event that the Mets do some serious damage to the Yankees this weekend. In the caller's rant he made a very good argument in pointing out that Endy Chevez and Lastings Milledge were not touted to be the Mets corner outfielders this year. Floyd has been hurt on and off all year. Nady had an appendectomy and now has a very sore hand. The caller also sited that the Mets lost two thirds of their pitching rotation. In summary, he clearly pointed out that injuries are part of the game, get over it and move along you spoiled brats (Yankee fans).

I’ll add to what the caller was talking about. Don’t forget that Carlos Beltran missed a bunch of games at the beginning of the season. Also after they lost Brian Banister, John Maine injured himself while warming up for his first start. Kaz Matsui screwed up his knee in spring training then his replacement Alexander Hernandez blew out his back. So although the Yankees have suffered injuries, and in fairness the loss of Matsui and Sheffield are huge, the Mets have had their fare share of injuries as well.

I am not optimistic in regards to this weekend’s series with the Yankees. I am worried that the Mets may not play well having been blown away by Boston this week. Of course I certainly hope they win for two reasons. One, obviously I want the Mets to win and keep putting the pressure on the rest of the NL East and two, I just want the Mets to shut up those whiney, arrogant, entitled, pompous Yankee fans. Really, is that too much to ask?
