Update 1-17-09 More demolition pictures have been posted at stadiumpage.com. In these photos, we see the footprint of Shea Stadium has now begun to be diminished. Sections of ramps on the left field side have been demolished. Click on the January 14 link.
Original Post 1-14-09 I've been a Mets fan since the beginning. I remember when Shea Stadium opened and I still find it hard to believe it's being torn down. Not that I mind however. Citi Field looks to be a far superior place to watch the Mets.
Anyway, Stadiumpage.com has posted some simply awesome pictures of Shea's demolition. In these photos, you will see that the upper level on the left field end has been completely removed. Plus the concourse is gone all the way to the top of the stadium revealing just the pedestrian ramps. It is quite surreal. There is a series of pictures that show a section of the canopy being cut away by workers with blow torches. You can see the large section of steel sliding down the upper deck. These are some great photos.
