Dedicated to the 15 champagne parties in Mets history. Hopefully there will be three more by the end of October.

Let the Champagne Flow

September 24, 1969, Torre for St. Louis was at the plate

Over 56 thousand came through the gate

A six to four to three double play

Who said the Mets would not rule the day

An unbelievable first as the Mets win the East

It wasn’t that long ago they were the National League least

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 6, 1969, Brave’s Tony Gonzales up to bat

He grounded out to third, now we’ll take that

The Mets win the pennant, oh listen to that crowd

We are number one, number one, say it loud

For the Mets it took just seven years

Now it was joy that was causing the tears

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 16, 1969, Davey Johnson’s turn to sing

He it high and far, oh what a swing

Cleon turned and went to the track

There wasn’t much farther he could go back

The ball fell in his glove then Jones knelt

That was a mighty blow the Orioles were dealt

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 1, 1973, pinch hitter Glenn Beckert was given a chance

Maybe the Cubs could spoil the dance

With a runner on first and one man out

A line drive to first would have no doubt

Milner ran to the bag for the double play

The Mets win the division on the season’s last day

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 10, 1973, McGraw on the hill

The Big Red Machine was to go for a spill

With two men out and three ducks on the pond

Tug would get Dan Driessen to hit on the ground

Milner raced in and fielded it then flipped to McGraw

You gotta believe, but the Pennant was all

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

September 17, 1986, oh what a year

The Cub’s Walker at the plate, you could hardly hear

He hit one to Backman who threw over to Keith

The Mets win their third division title, what a relief

That year the Mets won one-hundred and eight

The most dominating performance in Mets history to date

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 15, 1986, one of the greatest games ever

The Mets trailed the Stros in the ninth, never say never

They tied up the game then played into the night

Neither team gave up; they gave it a great fight

It lasted sixteen, Orosco faced Bass

One, two, strike three, the Mets won it at last

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 27, 1986, game seven with the Sox

The Mets fell behind; they could not get out of the box

Fernandez came in and played with their mind

The Mets did their thing and put Boston behind

Big hits by Knight and Strawberry gave the Mets faithful light

Then Jesse Orosco threw his glove into the night

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

September 22, 1988, Ron Darling pitched all nine

The Phillies had no chance, everything was fine

With two men down and Larry Parrish at bat

Ron got him to swing and it was over like that

The Mets second division title in three campaigns

But it went no further because Mike Scioscia did reign

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 4, 1999, a one game play in for the wild card

Al Leiter pitched great; it did not even look hard

The Reds proved no match for the Mets that cold night

When it was over they sipped and then had to take flight

To Arizona where they would play

Their very first divisional series the very next day

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 9, 1999 it went extra frames

Todd Pratt took a swing sending the DBacks to flames

Steve Finley jumped and thought he had caught it

But looked in his hand and saw nothing but mitt

On to the pennant, oh give us Mylanta

Not even Robin’s grand slam single could oust that Atlanta

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

September 27, 2000 Rick Reed started this one

When it was over the Mets had it won

Their second wild card finish they did clinch

And against the mighty Braves, it looked like a cinch

Benitez came in and got a nice save

Bobby V was happy, the crowd did the wave

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 8, 2000, Bobby Jones’s greatest day

As a Met all the critics would say

He shut out the Giants, not even a run

Jones gave up one hit and the Giants were done

The fans at big Shea belted out loud cheers

Only one Mad Dog Russo was driven to tears

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

October 16 2000, this time it was Hampton’s turn

To make the opposition, the St. Louis Cardinals burn

He shut out the Cards like Bobby before

Mike went the distance, closing the door

On this night the Mets raised the flag

Of their fourth NL Pennant, it was in the bag

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow

September 18, 2006, Trachsel on the hill on track

He only gave up three hits, the magic is back

Valentin hit a pair, comback player of the year?

Floyd made the catch, fourty-six thousand cheer

They played hard all season what a great campaign

Their fifth division title, now cue the champagne

Let the Champagne flow, let the championship flag blow

We hugged, screamed and hollered, let the Champagne flow
