You know, I have to get this off my chest. I work a full time gig and when the Mets went into a rain delay last night I just could not stay up because I have to get up early for work. When I awoke this morning, not knowing the outcome of the Mets game, I turned on SNY at 6:00AM. Perfect, Sports New York is about to start, I can see what happened with my beloved Mets before I have to jump into the shower. But nooooooo! SNY leads with the Nets being tossed out of the playoffs by the Heat. Well okay I guess, the Nets were in the playoffs, I'm still not too late. Let me just see the Mets highlights then I'll take a quick shower. What! I say What! Now Sports New York is showing the Yankee highlights first! Are you kidding me? I thought this station, whose majority owner is the Mets, is supposed to showcase and feature the freeken Mets! This is ridiculous, then to add insult to injury after the Yankee highlights they showed clips from the Red Sox-Orioles game. And then they went to a commercial break! I had to go to CNN Headline News just to get the Mets score off of the creeper text. I'm sorry, this is bull (do-do). Where the hell is the Mets network? Do they honestly think for a second that if the Mets were in a wild game such as the Yankees-Rangers game last night, that Yes would have led with Mets highlights? Are you kidding, heads at Yes would have rolled.

Look, I know what SNY is trying to do. They want to take the high road and report all New York sports equally. They want to say, see we're better than Yes, we will even show Yankee highlights first. I say, just cut it out. This has been a problem with the Mets for a long time, they just do not promote themselves well. They do not value their history and they simply just do not blow their own horn. Now I don't want Gary Cohen turning into John Sterling. I'm not suggesting that the game broadcasts should become the homer style so often found in out of town markets like the Cubs or Braves or even like Yankee broadcasts for that matter. The Mets games themselves are just fine. But I do think SNY is making a big mistake by not leading their sports highlight show with Mets highlights.

I have Cablevision. I was most concerned when there was no deal in place before spring training because I desperately need to watch the Mets -an illness I know from which I suffer. I wasn't upset that I might not be able to get sports highlights. I have about five other channels on my cable tier that I can get that stuff from. As a matter of fact, who was the most upset about the possibility of being shut out of Mets games if you had Cablevision, DirectTV or some other system not on board with SNY? The average sports fans or Mets fans? First of all, if I want to see how the Nets did or even the Kansas City Royals for that matter, I'll tune in Sports Center on ESPN. They have done it longer and they do it better. Stop the insanity and give me Mets first stuff on the Mets station for goodness sakes.

And while were on the subject, when the Yankees have a night off, more than often when you turn on Yes, you see a Yankees classic game. Monday, night when I tuned to SNY during a night off for the Mets, I see Arena Football. Arena Football?? Who watches that? Give me a Mets classic game for goodness sake. God knows there are plenty of them. SNY should stop pretending to be something they are not. They are the Mets channel, plain and simple. I'm not suggesting that they have 24 hours a day Mets coverage, but I feel the Mets stations primary focus should be on the Mets. I should not have to wait 15 minutes into Sports New York to see what my team who owns most of this network did. That's just not right.

Notes: Oh by the way, the Mets beat the Cardinals 8 to 3.
