I swore I would never walk around the house mumbling to myself after a Mets loss ever again. But tonight I could not help myself. In over 45 years of watching this team, I don't think I ever saw a more devastating loss than what I just witnessed.

How does a player with the defensive resume of Castillo drop that ball in a game where the Mets played with such grit and so hard tonight. How many tests must the Mets pass to get where they want to go. The Mets deserved every inch of that game tonight. They fought and scrapped and played so hard to win but lost it because the man at second base could not make the most fundamental of plays. The only way to describe this 9-8 Mets loss to the Yankees is simply excruciating.

This game could have set the tone for this series but now the tone it sets is completely the opposite. I felt I would have been satisfied with one win over the weekend considering the players the Mets are fielding these days. They still can get a win but they are going to have to put this toughest of losses behind them and that is not going to be easy. After all, the Mets are only human. That loss stings. It has to and it could have lasting effects. It seems as if the Mets are being put through every conceivable obstacle imaginable this season. Ridiculous injuries, tough extra inning losses, and now this.

I applaud Mets fans everywhere. There is no tougher fan base than Mets fans. You have to be tough to be a fan of this team because they simply tear your heart out.
