Don Mattingly has replaced Lee Mazzilli as the Yankees batting coach. From what I gather it appears that Maz is out of the Yankee dugout at least on the Major League squad.  The Mets recently have begun a good trend of honoring past Mets such as the season long 20th anniversary of the 1986 World Championship Mets.  Omar should bring back Mazzilli into the Mets family. With a couple of Mets coaches most likely leaving for managerial jobs it would make perfect sense to bring back Maz.

Lee Mazzilli came up with the Mets in 1976 and was the only true star the Mets were able to market at a time when the Mets were absolutely dreadful.  He was traded to the Texas Rangers in 1982 for Ron Darling and Walt Terrell who later became important cogs in the Mets rise in the 80's.  Mazzilli returned to the Mets in late 1986 after playing with the Yankees briefly then three plus seasons with the Pirates.  He became an important player off the bench for the Mets World Championship drive.  He retired as a player after he finished the 1989 season with Toronto.  Maz has been with the Yankees as a coach for a number of years and had a brief managerial stint with the Baltimore Orioles.
